Eyelid Surgery and Blepharoplasty

“In lower lid rejuvenation procedures we now focus more on restoring fullness to the area, whether by repositioning fat, transferring fat to the lower lid and tear trough areas, or including a cheek suspension procedure to lift the malar pad back up to its previous position in the tear trough area. Most lower lids I do are through the trans-conjunctival approach, i.e. through the inside lining of the lower lid which avoids the need for a skin incision on the lower lid.

“Upper eyelid surgery must be planned to remove excess skin without creating a hollow aged look of the upper lid and orbit area. The patient also must be able to close the eyes, which believe it or not, is an issue when too much skin is removed from the upper lid. I have a unique pattern of the outer portion of the upper lid closure, such that it sweeps up and out, much as women put on makeup in this area. It helps prevent hooding of the outer lid, and gives a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance, rather than a sad look to the lid.”

“In men, it is important not to feminize the upper lid, and so the removal of skin and the extension of the incisions laterally are much more conservative.
